AUSTRALIA – The Brut Australian Baseball League has announced the Individual Awards for the top performers of the 2018-19 season. The Brisbane Bandits knocked off the Perth Heat in the 2019 ABL Championship Series to capture an unprecedented fourth consecutive ABL crown.
Below are this year’s ABL top performers:
2019 Rookie of the Year: Robbie Glendinning, Perth Heat
The Pittsburgh Pirates prospect batted .364 in 28 games and went 17-for-37 (.459) during the final 10 regular season games.
2019 Defensive Player of the Year: Gift Ngoepe, Sydney Blue Sox
The Philadelphia Phillies farmhand anchored the Blue Sox defense while adding six long balls and 32 RBIs at the plate.
2019 Reliever of the Year: Todd Van Steensel, Sydney Blue Sox
The St. Paul Saints right-hander led the ABL with 10 saves and collected 25 strikeouts in 18 appearances as the Blue Sox closer.
2019 Pitcher of the Year: Markus Solbach, Adelaide Bite
The Los Angeles Dodgers minor leaguer posted 74 strikeouts over 65 1/3 innings with an impressive 1.10 ERA.
2019 Helms Award: Tim Kennelly, Perth Heat & Marcus Solbach, Adelaide Bite
Kennelly batted .338/.419/.531 over 38 games and shared the Helms Award with Solback, the talented German right-hander.
