SOUTH AFRICA – The South African National Team cruised past Uganda, 27-0, Sunday to capture first-place at the 2019 Africa Baseball Cup. With the tournament championship, South Africa will represent Africa at the WBSC Baseball Europe-Africa Qualifier in September.
South Africa posted a 6-0 record at the five-day international baseball tournament and outscored the fledgling national teams from Burkina Faso, Uganda and Zimbabwe by a margin of 95 to 9.
Uganda, which won the Zone East Qualifier, took home the silver medal and posted a 3-2 record, while Zimbabwe (2-3) claimed the bronze medal and Burkina Faso (0-5) finished in fourth-place.
The WBSC Baseball Europe-Africa Qualifier will take place from Sept. 18-22 in the Italian cities of Bologna and Parma. The winning squad will book a ticket to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
