ITALY – Luca Scalera singled home the go-ahead score in the ninth inning and Parmaclima overcame an early seven-run hole to stun Sipro Nettuno, 11-10, Saturday in an Italian Serie A1 matchup at the Steno Borghese Stadium in Nettuno. With the win, Parmaclima (6-4) moved into sole possession of second place behind unbeaten Unipolsai Bologna.

Nettuno (5-5) erupted for six hits and seven runs in the opening frame to seemingly take control of the game. Andy Vasquez and Nicola Garbella highlighted the uprising with two-run singles that chased Parmaclima starter Mattia Aldegheri after just 2/3 innings. However, the visiting squad started on the comeback trail a few innings later.

Lorenzo Gradali led off the third with a base hit and motored home on an RBI triple from Aldo Koutsoyanopulos. Charlie Mirabal laced a one-out double into the gap in left center to plate Koutsoyanopulos before Sebastiano Poma capped the scoring with a run-scoring single to cut the lead to 7-3.

Nettuno added a score in the fourth on an RBI sac fly off the bat of Luis Alvarez, but Parmaclima answered back with a run in the fifth before silencing the hometown fans with a five-run sixth highlighted by Alex Sambucci’s two-run blast to grab a 9-8 advantage.

The see-saw battle continued in the bottom of the same frame as Nettuno pulled ahead on a two-run homer from Alvarez to set the stage for Scalera’s game-winning hit.

Parmaclima reliever Yomel Rivera (2-1) collected the final nine outs in dominating fashion with six strikeouts to earn the win.

Nettuno opened the two-game series with a 11-4 victory on Friday night as both Alvarez and Vasquez went deep. Ricardo Hernandez (1-0) allowed three runs and eight hits over six innings to notch the decision.

Leomart Rodriguez paced the home side with four RBIs, while Alvarez drove in three scores and Luis Ustariz stroked a pair of doubles and tallied two RBIs.

Poma and Mercuri Mattia both smacked long balls for Parmaclima, and Scalera added two doubles in a losing effort.

Carlos Quevedo and two relievers combined on a three-hit shutout on Friday night to lead the Titans past Castenaso. Quevedo (2-1) turned in an impressive outing with two hits and 11 strikeouts over 5 2/3 frames.

Alex Romero belted a solo home run off Castenaso starter Aliangel Lopez (1-3) in the fifth for the only score of the game.

Andres Perez worked two hitless innings and Fernando Baez registered four strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings to picked up his first save of the season.
