SPAIN – Sergio Gutierrez tossed seven innings of one-run ball and CBS Sant Boi captured the 2019 Copa del Rey championship with a 7-3 victory Sunday over San Inazio Bilbao.\\
Sant Boi, which is currently residing near the bottom of the Spanish Division de Honor, knocked off the defending league champion Tenerife Marlins on Saturday to reach the title game.
Gutierrez (1-0) limited San Inazio to just four hits and racked up six strikeouts to pick up the win despite issuing seven walks. Reliever Eric Asensio allowed two runs on three hits over the final two frames, but still managed to earn his second save in the two-day tournament.
Edgar Rodriguez paced Sant Boi with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate that included two doubles and three RBIs, while Ruben Fente reached base four times on three singles and a walk.
NEPTUNUS CONTINUES DUTCH LEAGUE DOMINANCE
Curacao Neptunus improved to 19-2 with a three-game sweep over the Silicon Storks. The reigning Dutch Hoofdklasse champion roughed up the Storks, 19-4, in the series finale on Sunday as Gianison Boekhoudt drilled his fourth and fifth home runs of the season. Neptunus boasts five of the top eight hitters in the league and sports a .306 team batting average. Top hitters includes Shaldimar Daantji (.384), Boekhoudt (.375), Dudley Leonora (.350), Benjamin Dille (.338), and Stijn van der Meer (.337).
ARROWS OSTRAVA PLAYING AT HIGH LEVEL
The reigning Czech Extraleague champion Arrows Ostrava made a huge statement with a lopsided 16-3 victory over European powerhouse Draci Brno. Cleanup hitter Tomas Junec went 3-for-4 with a double, homer, and scored four runs, while American right-hander Wes Roemer (6-1) pitched seven strong innings to earn the win. The Arrows, Draci, Eagles, Kotlarka and Tempo Titans have each clinched a spot in the championship round of league action.
SOLINGEN ALLIGATORS TOPS NORTH DIVISION
The Solingen Alligators swept the Cologne Cardinals to move into the top spot in the German Baseball-Bundesliga. The Alligators (14-4) have a slim lead over the reigning German champion Bonn Capitals (15-5). Florian Gotze homered and drove in two scores in the Alligators 7-4 victory in the first game. Giovanni Tensen (6-1) worked eight strong innings to pickup the win. Solingen starter Wayne Ough (5-3) and reliever Jakob Syren combined on a three-hit shutout with 16 strikeouts to help the Alligators finish off the sweep with a 3-0 triumph. Nils Hartkopf paced the offense with three hits and an RBI.
SENART TEMPLIERS MOVE INTO FRONTRUNNER SPOT
The Senart Templiers outscored Paris Universitie Club, 28-5, in a twinbill sweep to improve its season card to 13-1. Romain Martinez tallied four hits and six RBIs in the Templiers 23-5 win in the first encounter, and Carlos Belonis went 4-for-6 and crossed home plate four times. Cliford Heberden (3-0) allowed one hit and no walks over five scoreless innings in the second game to lead Senart to a 5-0 win. Jay Rivera tossed four shutout frames to register his third save of the season, and Mohamed Baoui went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
