2019 European Baseball Champions Cup: Unipolsai Bologna Routs Deurne Spartans

ITALY – Andrea Pizziconi and Filippo Crepaldi combined on a seven-hit shutout and Unipolsai Bologna defeated the Deurne Spartans, 11-0, Thursday at the 2019 European Baseball Champions Cup.

Pizziconi (1-0) allowed five hits and three walks over six innings to get credit for the decision, while Crepaldi allowed two hits and registered four strikeouts in two relief frames.

Jose Ferrini and Eladio Russo paced the reigning Italian champion with two RBIs apiece, and Allesandro Grimaudo reached base four times and scored a pair of runs.

Alexis Marquez was the main offensive threat for the Belgian squad with two singles and Morris de Vriendt reached base twice on a pair of free passes.

Bologna (2-1) will meet Curacao Neptunus (3-0) on Friday in a highly-anticipated matchup featuring two of the top teams on the old continent, while Deurne (0-3) will battle the Rouen Huskies (1-2).

Parmaclima 17, Bonn Capitals 8
The Italian squad belted four long balls to dispose of the reigning German champion in an offensive juggernaut. Leonardo Zileri, Alex Sambucci, Luca Scalera and Riccardo Flisi all went deep for Parmaclima, while Wilson Lee and Kevin van Meensel smacked home runs for the Capitals in a contest that featured a combined 23 hits and 22 walks. Mauro Schiavoni (1-0) worked 4 2/3 innings of one-run ball to notch the win.

Curacao Neptunus 8, Rouen Huskies 3
Misja Harcksen (1-0) pitched two scoreless relief innings and Dudley Leonora and Quintin De Cuba drove in three runs apiece to helping the reigning European Club Champion remain unbeaten with a win over the French titleholder. Dwayne Kemp and Gianison Boekhoudt both collected three hits for the Dutch powerhouse.

L&D Amsterdam 22, Arrows Ostrava 2
The Pirates remained perfect at the tournament with a lopsided victory over the Czech champion. Kenny Berkenbosch went 3-for-3 with a home run and six RBIs, and Gilmer Lampe homered and drove in five runs. Denzel Washington also went deep for Amsterdam while American Terrell Joyce went deep for the Arrows. The Pirates tallied 20 hits, including eight extra-base hits, to help Jim Ploeger (1-0) earn the five-inning win.
